The Cincinnati Bengals took former LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Now, Chase will reunite with fellow ex-Tiger Joe Burrow, who the Bengals selected with the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft.

How much influence did Burrow have over the decision to draft his old teammate? ESPN’s Todd McShay speculated on NFL Live that Burrow did indeed influence the Bengals’ choice (via 247Sports):

“He must’ve said, ‘Hey, listen. Look at what we did with Ja’Marr Chase at LSU two years ago. Set single-season records in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Bring this guy back in, find somebody else to protect me very quickly,’” McShay said. “But Ja’Marr Chase is going to be a star in that offensive system and he’s thrilled to be back with Joe Burrow.”

It’s easy to believe in the new Cincinnati tandem, as Chase had 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2019.

They’re surely excited to play together again. Now, we’ll see how prolific that duo can be against NFL defenses.
