Nick Saban offered some comfort to LSU fans after the Tigers fell once again in a season opener to USC last Sunday.

The Trojans, led by Miller Moss at quarterback, prevailed in what was an excellent Week 1 matchup – perhaps the game of the weekend. Moss and LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier each looked like true pro prospects, but ultimately Moss and the Trojans got it done with under 2 minutes remaining.

Plenty of college football fans were quick to offer their take about LSU, and you can imagine the myriad of responses that came from it. Most were negative. But on College GameDay Saturday Saban offered some praise for the Tigers and told Tigers fans “you’re not as bad as you think” following that Week 1 performance.

That game really said more about USC than it did about LSU. USC’s secondary apparently learned how to tackle in the offseason, and the Trojans defense as a whole looked like a completely different unit. It’s unwise to draw conclusions after 1 game, but USC looks like the real deal heading into their first year in the Big Ten.

LSU gets an easier matchup this weekend, facing off against Nicholls before a trip to South Carolina in Week 3. The Tigers look to regroup and pick up a win at 7:30 p.m.
