Paul Skenes, LSU RHP, wins D1Baseball Pitcher of the Week award
Paul Skenes is one of the best pitchers in college baseball right now. The LSU righty, a transfer from Air Force, was one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal this past offseason. This past week especially, he showed why.
Skenes pitched 6 innings, allowing just 1 hit with 13 strikeouts, zero walks and zero runs allowed and 19 batters faced. in doing so, he led the Tigers to a 12-2 win over Butler Friday.

The Tigers are No. 1 for a reason. Skenes leads an impressive pitching unit for Jay Johnson and Co, while Dylan Crews leads the team at the plate. The Tigers have lost just once this season, dropping to Iowa on Feb. 25.
LSU currently leads Butler 9-0, looking to improve to 11-1 on the year.

I don’t mean to take anything away from Skenes, who looks to be one of the best pitchers in the SEC. But Thatcher Hurd struck out 11 in 6 innings against the same Butler team last night. LSU didn’t look so great in a 12-4 loss to Iowa and a 3-0 win over a Texas team with a losing record. One more week of cupcakes before LSU starts SEC play. I hope they’ll be ready for the SEC grind.
I watched both games and Hurd’s performance last night doesn’t take anything away from Skenes. The only real difference between the performances was that Skenes was throwing in the high 90’s and Hurd was the mid 90’s
Yeah, but the point is Butler couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
The point is mid to high 90’s is not going to get hit by much of anyone.
Those are two excellent starters for us. Our Sunday starter could be Ty Floyd, C.hristian Little, or Chase Shores.
When Javen Coleman returns next month, they’ll have to figure him in somewhere in the rotation.
