The No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats looked like they were in control of their home game against No. 19 LSU on Tuesday night, leading 40-32 at halftime.

However, after the intermission, things started going LSU’s way, primarily because LSU PG Tremont Waters started to get hot. At the under-four TV timeout, the Tigers actually held a 65-62 lead after big man Naz Reid hit a three-pointer.

The Tigers stretched their lead to five points before Kentucky big man PJ Washington took over, scoring five-straight points for the Wildcats to tie the game at 69-69. Tremont Waters and Keldon Johnson then traded free throws to make it 71-71.

Naturally, the game didn’t end without some controversy, as a potential game-winning shot by LSU was reviewed before eventually being allowed. Kavell Bigby-Williams tipped in a Skyler Mays shot attempt and gave the Tigers a 73-71 victory on the road:

That, obviously, takes a little bit of shine off of Saturday’s matchup between No. 1 Tennessee and Kentucky, but it was a huge win for the Tigers, who moved ahead of the Wildcats into second place in the SEC standings.

Waters had 15 points to lead the Tigers, and Naz Reid (12 points), Mays (11 points) and Emmitt Williams (12 points) all had double-digit point totals, too.

PJ Washington had a game-high 20 points in the loss for Kentucky.
