This doesn’t qualify for a Happy New Year for Leonard Fournette.

On Sunday, Jaguars V.P. Tom Coughlin criticized Fournette’s actions, calling his conduct unprofessional. Fournette and former Alabama RB TJ Yeldon spent the game on the bench disengaged from the rest of the team.

However, Coughlin’s tongue-lashing appears to just be the beginning of it.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly informed Fournette that they have decided to void his first-round rookie contract guarantees of $7.1 million, per the Associated Press. The team is eligible to make this decision because of Fournette’s one-game suspension earlier this season. Fournette exited the bench and participated in a fight against the Bills. He was suspended without pay.

Fournette could certainly challenge the Jaguars’ decision, and if the decision stands, assuming he fights it, the Jaguars could cut Fournette and not be on the hook for any money.

Fournette’s future in Jacksonville is very much in doubt.

The Jaguars drafted Fournette with the fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He missed eight games in 2018 due to injuries and disciplinary reasons. The former LSU standout has rushed for just 439 yards and five TDs this season.
