LSU will have a new quarterback under center for Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

According to Garland Gillen of FOX 8 WVUE in New Orleans, the Tigers will start true freshman quarterback TJ Finley in place of junior Myles Brennan, who is continuing to deal with a significant lower-body injury. It will be Finley’s LSU debut.

Brennan suffered the injury during the Tigers’ loss at Missouri on Oct. 10, and head coach Ed Orgeron sounded pessimistic earlier in the week about the possibility of the quarterback being ready to go this Saturday. Through three weeks, Brennan had passed for 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Finley, who is listed at 6-foot-6 and 242 pounds, attended Ponchatoula (La.) High School and was a 3-star recruit in the 2020 class. He was the No. 19 pro-style quarterback in the class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Even though Finley is starting, he may not be the only quarterback to take snaps for LSU on Saturday. Orgeron told the media earlier in the week that he planned on playing both Finley and fellow true freshman Max Johnson at quarterback against South Carolina.

Johnson, a 4-star recruit out of Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, Ga., would also be making his LSU debut. He was the No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

With both true freshmen set to potentially play, Tigers fans could be getting a glimpse of the future this Saturday, as one of these players could end up being the full-time starter down the line.

LSU and South Carolina are set to kick off on Saturday at Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
