Report: NCAA 'looking into' LSU basketball coach Will Wade's recruiting tactics
The latest report from Yahoo! Sports involving college basketball centers around LSU head coach Will Wade.
Sources told Pete Thamel, who’s been crushing the FBI investigation, that the NCAA has spent the past six months looking into the recruiting tactics of Wade. The report states that NCAA enforcement has traveled around the country to learn more about his recruiting.
Here’s a snippet:
The NCAA’s scrutiny of Wade began not long after his hire at LSU in March, but the inquiry has stalled because of a lack of on-the-record specifics about Wade’s recruiting, according to a source. The NCAA’s information gathering has covered part of his time as head coach at VCU, according to a source. Wade’s early recruiting activity at LSU prompted the NCAA enforcement interest, according to a source.
So, it appears that the NCAA has looked into Wade, but it hasn’t found much so far.
The report also states that it’s unlikely that the ongoing FBI investigation into college basketball intersects with the NCAA’s probe. The FBI’s investigation has several links to LSU, but none of them have been linked to Wade and his tenure at the school.
Wade is in his first season as LSU’s head coach. He coached VCU from 2015-2017 and finished with an overall record of 51-20. Wade and LSU are currently 16-12 in 2017.
On Friday, Yahoo! Sports published an explosive report that named several SEC programs and players involved in the ongoing FBI investigation.
“After talking to my staff we have had no contact from the NCAA regarding any irregularities,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva told Yahoo! Sports.
