SEC officiating gets a bad rap. Sometimes the criticism is warranted, other times it isn’t.

One play in the Mizzou-LSU game on Saturday afternoon was an example of the former. This criticism was definitely warranted.

In a tight, back-and-forth game, Mizzou had the ball at the goal line. Officials seemed to miss a clear false start on a Missouri offensive lineman.

Here’s a look at the no-call. Even as a Mizzou graduate, I have to admit this is a pretty obvious false start:

But the refs missed the call, and the touchdown was allowed to stand. It gave Mizzou a 32-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

As you might expect, fans and media members were furious and confused on social media. Here’s a sampling of some of the reaction on X (formerly Twitter). You’ll notice the @SECOfficiating handle is tagged a lot:
