It's simple: Orgeron is letting his coaches coach
Ed Orgeron is truly a seasoned veteran when it comes to coaching in the college football ranks.
Stops at Miami, Syracuse, Ole Miss, Southern Cal, and LSU has shaped his viewpoint on the game — and thus how he teaches it. Over a coaching career that spans north of 20 years, Orgeron’s certainly accrued a fair bit of knowledge.
When taking over the post for Les Miles, Orgeron opted for more of a hands-off approach as it pertains to his position coaches. He’s letting them coach without getting involved:
You'll remember that Miles had a heavy hand in #LSU's OL. It's now Grimes' to manage.

Dead on, Ross. Orgeron told me Sunday that Grimes asked him in game about OL, and O told him, "Manage your position. You've got it." https://t.co/weckAUNCtG

@ClowESPN Very similar to what he did at USC, where Tommy Robinson got Buck Allen going…Also opposite to how he managed it at Ole Miss.

@BruceFeldmanCFB Bruce, you know this as well as anybody. O's a different cat as a head coach than he was at Ole Miss. He's learned well.

This approach paid dividends in the Tigers’ 42-7 smashing of Mizzou. The ground-game compiled more than 400 yards on the ground, and thoroughly dominated what was billed as a dominant Missouri defensive line.
I like it. The more pressure Les felt, the more involved he got into everything. That was not for the best. He picked the staff and he should have let them do their thing.
True story. If you go out there and hire what you belive to be the best postion coaches in the game, then you have to let them do what they do best. Except for Coach Cam.
I think Cam was victim of this too!! His previous track record looks nothing like what he did at LSU.
I agree totally. Why would you hire someone you obviously believe in, just to make them do it “your way”?
I get the feeling that Miles pretty much let Aranda do what he wanted defensively, and it shows. The Tigers D has gotten better each week.
Houston Nutt left the cupboard bare for Coach O at Ole Miss. Coach O filled the cupboard for Bucky.
