The latest College Football Playoff rankings had a little twist when they were released on Tuesday.

Ohio State, fresh off a win over Penn State on Saturday, leapfrogged LSU for the top spot, while the Tigers dropped to No. 2 despite their 56-20 win over Arkansas. Clemson and Georgia remained at No. 3 and No. 4.

Clearly, the CFP committee felt that the Buckeyes win over a Nittany Lions team ranked No. 8 in last week’s rankings, was of greater value than the Tigers’ win over a struggling Razorbacks program. However, the Buckeyes didn’t dominate from start to finish and needed a 4th quarter touchdown to seal the deal, while the Tigers, despite leading only 7-3 after one quarter, eventually pulled away for a comfortable victory. And with Ohio State at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 4, if the College Football Playoff were to start this weekend, it probably isn’t lost on many fans that a Justin Fields vs. Jake Fromm semifinal matchup would be on the table.

Of course, there was plenty of reaction on social media about whether or not the playoff committee made the right decision.
