LSU took it on the chin last Saturday at home against Tennessee and its No. 25 ranking is long gone. Brian Kelly’s Tigers fell to 4-2, their winning streak halted at 4 in embarrassing fashion after a 40-13 loss to the No. 6 Volunteers.

Now comes the fallout.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith unleashed some shocking comments about Kelly on First Take during Paul Finebaum’s appearance.

“I am not hearing anything good about Brian Kelly,” Smith said. “I’ve interviewed him a few times in the past. I know he had a stellar record at Notre Dame. I like him. They looked awful at LSU last week. Awful. Tennessee just rolled over them, 40-13.”

According to Smith’s sources, Kelly isn’t making a lot of friends so far in his first season in Baton Rouge.

“I’m hearing the players (aren’t) fond of him, the administration (isn’t) fond of him, the fans (aren’t) fond of him, the town (isn’t) fond of him,” Smith said.

Finebaum did come to Kelly’s defense after Smith’s comments, saying that previous head coach Ed Orgeron left the LSU program in shambles and that Kelly deserves a little time to get the house in order in Baton Rouge.

Kelly’s pursuit of regaining some order after last week’s disaster starts Saturday night when the Tigers visit Florida.
