Some had their concerns when Brian Kelly stepped on the scene at LSU as the program opened the season with a 24-23 loss to the Florida State Seminoles.

But the team quickly made a turnaround and, with minimal bumps in the road, is now ranked at No. 7 in the nation with a statement 32-31 overtime win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on their resume.

ESPN’s Tom Hart recently joined “McElroy and Cubelic In the Morning” to discuss what he saw out of Kelly and how he is going above and beyond the expectations for his first year in Baton Rouge.

“Going back to our meetings at LSU with Brian Kelly and his staff, there was an eerie confidence there and I thought it was misplaced at the time because I certainly didn’t have high expectations,” Hart said. “And quite frankly, I thought a 7-win season would be great for LSU.”

Instead, LSU posts a 7-2 overall record with plenty of optimism it will continue to win this season.

The Tigers will face the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville up next on the schedule Saturday.
