Top 100 QB Justin Rogers says NW Louisiana isn’t ‘LSU country anymore’

LSU has often been among the best in the country at retaining in-state talent, but it may have hit a hiccup in one crucial recruiting hotbed.

Bossier City, La., is the home of top-100 2018 prospect Justin Rogers, the nation’s sixth-ranked dual-threat QB according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. That should be a positive for LSU, as it would appear to have the home field advantage with his recruitment, but Rogers says that may not be the case.

According to an interview with Rivals’ Woody Wommack, Rogers says that the treatment of another former Bossier City QB, Brandon Harris, may have rubbed people the wrong way in the area.

“I wouldn’t say I’m in LSU country anymore. LSU is on bad terms with people around here. Brandon Harris was their baby. There are some LSU fans here and either they were mad about Brandon’s situation or they were all for Les Miles. It’s not really LSU country around here anymore. You have a couple of teachers that are diehard LSU fans but everyone just want to know where I’m going.”

For what it’s worth, Ed Orgeron’s 2018 recruiting class has been laden with Louisiana-based talent so far. The third-ranked class already has seven prospects from the state.

Orgeron may have some work to do in Bossier City, but his in-state roots may give help to mend fences. The Tigers’ head man attended Northwestern State University, only about an hour from Rogers’ hometown.

Nonetheless, Rogers is down to LSU, North Carolina and TCU, and he says the Tigers have let him know he’s important.

“They’ve been telling me that I’m their No. 1 guy,” Rogers told Rivals. “I’ve been hearing from Coach Canada and Coach O and those guys every day. They came up the first day of spring practice and they’ve definitely turned up the heat.”

Rogers seems to be set on a May 31 commitment date, too.
