Former LSU DB Tre’Davious White is widely projected as a first- or second-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Going in the early rounds should lead to White picking up a nice signing bonus, and he already has plans for what to do with the money.

“Got to get my mom in a bigger space,” he told Ross Dellenger of The Advocate.

“That’s most important to me. Football is another drive and avenue to help my family situation. I love the game, but I’ve got more important things to think about as far as me not going (in the first round).”

White grew up with his mother and four siblings in a three-bedroom house in the Copper Road community, known for high its crime and poverty rates, of North Shreveport, La. He and his old brother were only given mattresses. The mattresses were so stiff that the two boys stacked them together and slept on them as a makeshift bed.

“We were two grown boys in high school doing that,” White said. “My younger brother and sister shared my sister’s bed and my mother’s.”

A number of first-round mock drafts have White going in the first round, but it’s a loaded draft class for defensive backs. White realizes he may sit through 32 picks on Thursday night without hearing his name, but he’s solid in his decision to attend the draft.

“If it doesn’t go my way, I know I’m still in a great place, great position to pretty much set my family up for life,” the former Tigers defensive back said.

With his son due next Wednesday and the draft starting Thursday, it’s a week of big changes ahead for White.
