Viewers tune in for top 10 matchup
Saturday night’s matchup between top 10 teams LSU and Florida was the second-most watched game of the weekend.
The game earned a 4.0 rating, according to ESPN. It was the most watched prime time game.
The sixth-ranked Tigers defeated the No. 8 Gators 35-28.
The game was especially popular in New Orleans, where it received a 28.0 overnight. That was the best overnight ever for an ESPN-televised college football game in that market.
The only game with a higher rating on Saturday was the Michigan-Michigan State game, which aired at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN and received a 5.1 rating. Michigan State returned a fumble on the final play of the game to win 27-23. Many of the people who saw the winning score had tuned in to watch the LSU-Florida game, which helped ESPN earn a 7.2 overnight during the period of time when the winning touchdown was scored (between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m.).
