Tennessee vs. Kentucky
The Tennessee vs. Kentucky rivalry has historically been dominated by the Volunteers. Tennessee leads the overall series record 82-26-9 over Kentucky.
Three of Kentucky’s wins, however, have come since 2011. The Wildcats beat the Volunteers 10-7 in 2011, 29-26 in 2017 and 34-7 in 2020. Mark Stoops is responsible for 2 of those wins during his impressive tenure.
From 1953 to 1959, Kentucky beat Tennessee 6 of 7 games. Tennessee’s longest winning streak, on the other hand, came from 1985 to 2010 — 26.
Josh Huepel has Tennessee’s program thinking of becoming a national powerhouse once again, while Stoops has built an impressive program in Lexington as well.
This rivalry used to be appropriately named the “Beer Barrel Trophy” from 1925 through 1999. That trophy and name have since been retired.
