The ACC released a statement early Saturday morning following the controversial call on the final play of Friday’s 38-34 win by the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes over Virginia Tech, a contest that nearly ended in a huge upset.
In that last play, Virginia Tech’s Hail Mary attempt was ultimately ruled incomplete, a call that drew outrage from Hokies fans and would have sealed the deal for their team.
“During the review process of the last play… It was determined that the loose ball was touched by a Miami player while he was out of bounds which makes it an incomplete pass and immediately ends the play,” the statement from the conference read.

Despite this, some have taken to social media with mixed opinions as to whether or not the officials truly made the right call here. Brad Crawford of CBS Sports sees it both ways.
“I’m still not sure how it was called a TD on the field with all the wrestling for the football going on,” he posted on X. “I do not believe there was enough evidence to overturn the TD ruling, either.”
With the victory Miami, moves to an undefeated record of 5-0, continuing its road as potentially one of college football’s biggest dark horse teams of the offseason.
