Ward received the vast majority of votes for ACC Player of the Year. He garnered 59 votes while SMU’s Kevin Jennings and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton were tied with 4 each in second place. Syracuse’s Kyle McCord, SMU’s Brashard Smith and Virginia Tech’s Antwaun Powell-Ryland also earned votes.
Ward also received 59 out of a possible 71 votes for the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Year award.
Ward passes for 4,123 yards and an ACC-best 36 touchdown passes this season. He was also a big part of why Miami led the country in yards per play during the regular season.
Ward’s emergence as Miami’s quarterback brought about an offensive revolution of sorts for the Hurricanes, who won 10 games for the first time since 2017 and for just the second time since the end of the Larry Coker era. Miami averaged 7.6 yards per play this season, which is easily the program’s best mark this century. Miami’s next-best season in terms of yards per play came back in 2002 when it averaged 6.83 yards per play.
Ward is Miami’s first-ever recipient of the ACC Player of the Year Award.
