Cam Ward is being recognized as the top quarterback in the country.
The Miami QB won the Davey O’Brien Award on Thursday during the College Football Awards on ESPN. He beat out Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, a fellow Heisman Trophy finalist, for the award.
Ward joins Vinny Testaverde (1986) and Gino Torretta (1992) as Miami quarterbacks to win the prestigious award. He transferred to UM ahead of the 2024 season.
Ward is a big reason the Hurricanes are enjoying their first 10-win season under Mario Cristobal. This season, Ward has completed 293-of-435 pass attempts for 4,123 yards and 36 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions.
Miami leads the nation in scoring offense with 44.2 points per game. Ward is the NCAA leader in passing touchdowns (36) and quarterback rating (88.0). Ward is second nationally in passing yards (4,123), points responsible for (254) and total offense (359.9). He is fourth in yards per attempt.
The award is the latest honor for Ward in a spectacular season. He has already collected ACC Football Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, and was named first-team All-ACC.
Ward will learn his Heisman fate on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. Colorado 2-way star Travis Hunter is considered the favorite.
