Miami’s turnover chain, which helped launch the sideline prop trend in college football, has officially been retired.
Hurricanes assistant Alex Mirabal reportedly told a recruit in January, “We got rid of the turnover chains and stuff like that. We’re here to play football.” On Wednesday, Cristobal confirmed that news. The first-year Miami head coach told Brett McMurphy that the turnover chain is no longer part of the program’s culture.

The turnover chain was introduced in 2017, during the Mark Richt era, to celebrate defensive takeaways. It continued during Manny Diaz’s 3 seasons after Richt stepped down.
