Mississippi State’s 2021 class is down to 20 commitments after an in-state prospect backed off his pledge Wednesday.

Lafayette High School standout Brendan Toles announced his decommitment MSU in a tweet.

“After a long talk with my family… i have decided to decommit from Mississippi State University…” Toles wrote in a note posted to his Twitter account.

The Oxford native is listed as a wide receiver but rated as a cornerback. The 6-1, 178-pounder is the No. 25 recruit in Mississippi, No. 125 cornerback and No. 1,427 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2021 on the 247Sports Composite.

MSU is the only Power 5 program to offer Toles at this time. His 247Sports profile also lists scholarship offers from Arkansas State, FIU, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Murray State, South Alabama, Tulane and UAB. Toles received his MSU offer on July 9 and committed on Aug. 7.

With 20 pledges, MSU’s 2021 class is rated No. 9 in the SEC and No. 25 nationally on the Composite.
