Will Bednar will get the start for Mississippi State’s first game of the 2021 College World Series against Texas, Bulldogs coach Chris Lemonis shared.

Bednar will be looking to bounce back from his outing against Notre Dame in the Super Regional. Last Saturday, Bednar pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks. Bednar also had a wild pitch and 2 HBP in the 71-pitch outing.

For the season, Bednar has a 3.53 ERA over 74 innings pitched with 113 strikeouts, 67 hits and 20 walks. He has a 7-1 record over 16 appearances, including 13 starts. In 2021, opposing batters are hitting .241 against the right-hander.

The Bulldogs open the College World Series facing the highest-ranked team still in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns are the No. 2 national seed.

Mississippi State and Texas play in the last of four opening weekend games. It is set for 7 p.m. ET Sunday, airing on ESPN2.
