Mississippi State recruiting heating up as Bulldogs land second commitment in as many days
Mike Leach’s program is starting to heat up on the recruiting trail as Mississippi State has just landed its second commitment in as many days.
The latest good news comes from Lexington, Miss., native Corey Ellington who announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Thursday. Ellington’s decision comes just a day after 6-foot-6, 277-pound offensive lineman Makylan Pounders committed to Leach’s Mississippi State football program.
Rated as a three-star prospect, Ellington is listed at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, the No. 17 overall prospect from Mississippi and the No. 158 receiver nationally by 247Sports Composite Rankings. Ellington’s commitment comes not long after receiving a scholarship offer from Arkansas.
Following this news, Mississippi State now holds eight commitments in the 2021 recruiting cycle. The class ranks No. 7 in the SEC and No. 34 nationally at this time.
Ellington plays both sides of the ball for Holmes County High School at receiver and safety.

Five(5) Recruits from Mississippi…Great ! You’ve gotta control your own state to succeed. The Leach-Air-Force is recruiting well so far. Two(2) Receivers in this group…good for starters.
Have stars in Mississippi been accurate lately? It used to be if you had a 3 star from Mississippi it was like a 4 star from Texas. My guess is recruiting info has picked up in Mississippi and that’s not as true as it once was. I would still add 1/2 a star in comparison to Texas.
I would say that the football high school talent is very underrated. Players rated 2 stars go on to succeed in college and move on to the NFL…Ms has more players per capita on Pro teams than a lot of states…and if you consider the older players, it is unbelievable!
Write bigger checks, get bigger stars Darrell
Georgia doesn’t have a qb. Maybe UGA should write bigger checks.
