Cowboys QB coach: Dak Prescott has more speed, flexibility, strength and quickness than last year
Remember when Dak Prescott was supposed to just be a backup behind Tony Romo? Rookies enter the NFL and are supposed to be seen and not heard, but after an incredible first season, Prescott is set to take a much bigger leadership role in Dallas.
The Cowboys started OTAs Wednesday, and now, it’s Prescott’s team. There’s no Romo, and there’s no controversy. And even after a monster rookie campaign, the former Mississippi State star has improved in every testing category this offseason, according to Cowboys’ QB coach Wade Wilson (via DallasNews). This is a scary thought for defenses.
“He’s improved strength-wise, flexibility-wise, speed-wise, quickness-wise, so he’s not resting on anything that went on last year,” Wilson said. “He had a phenomenal rookie year. He’s been out here working the whole offseason and taking over a little bit more of a leadership role this year that’s kind of innate with the position, but it is his personality as well, and the guys are really responding to that.”
Wallace added, “Nothing is too big for that kid.”
It shows just how dedicated Prescott really is to his craft, and that’s usually natural for a player to make these types of gains after his rookie season. It was a smooth transition for Prescott in the NFL, and now, he’s set to take a bigger role within the team, because he’s earned his teammates’ respect.
“Just the fact that now when I say things, people are listening and I have the floor to say things now,” Prescott said. “Last year I was just being quiet and trying to fit my way in somehow or another.”
Prescott threw for 3,667 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to four INTs. He also rushed for 282 yards and six touchdowns. If the on-field performance improves as much as his physical traits have this off-season, it could be another beautiful run for the former MSU standout.
