Dan Mullen spent a long time at Mississippi State, and it’s clear he loves Mississippi State.

With Zach Arnett’s firing on Monday, the Bulldogs are now on the prowl from a new head coach. A possible option could be Mullen, who led Mississippi State from 2009 to 2017. A quote from Mullen back in July shows that he might be willing to go back to Starkville if given the option.

“I love Starkville,” Mullen said on the SDS Podcast. “If you had to associate me with coaching somewhere, you say, ‘Hey, what is your school that you coached at?’ I’d say ‘Mississippi State.’ That would be the school that I would claim.”

Mullen, who is not currently coaching, had mixed success during his time at Mississippi State. While he led the Bulldogs to a winning record in almost all of his seasons in Starkville, he never could get Mississippi State over the hump, with its best season coming in 2014 when Mullen led the Bulldogs to a 10-3 record.

Perhaps a second stint in Starkville could see Mullen lead Mississippi State to SEC or national glory.
