Former LSU lineman Cole Smith transferring to Mississippi State
LSU is expected to lose a lineman to a division rival, as Cole Smith, a Pontotoc, Mississippi native is looking to return to his home state.
Smith redshirted his true freshman season in 2018, and was expected to be the backup to center Lloyd Cushenberry III. He appeared in two games as a backup last season. Genespage.com reported the expected move, and added that a source said, “It’s official, Cole is coming home.” Smith was cleared to enroll for the fall semester at Mississippi State.
Smith is expected to go on scholarship in January, and take part in spring practice, according to the report. He would count toward the recruiting class of 2020, which currently has 23 verbal commitments.
Smith could be in the mix to replace senior starter Darryl Williams at center in 2020. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, and can play multiple positions along the line.
