Jeff Lebby is trying to get the momentum rolling on the recruiting trail at Mississippi State.

Lebby joined SEC Network on Early Signing Day to talk about some of the progress that the program has made since he was hired. From the moment he got there it’s been a priority to recruit well in Mississippi.

“It’s been important for us to just do well inside our state as we got going, making sure that we’re identifying the right guys that we had a chance to go sign today and making sure they understood that this isn’t a broken place. This is a place that went to 13-straight bowl games before this last year,” said Lebby. “Great tradition, great history and a program that’s got great excitement about it. Our fanbase and administration have been incredible in creating the vision and hope for these guys that we’re on a track to create something special.”

Lebby was also asked about former Oregon commit Michael Van Buren. Van Buren signed his letter of intent with the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Lebby is excited for Van Buren to finally get to Starkville.

“Had a lot of familiarity with Mike, had been on him for a long time. A guy that I think is a great leader and knows what it looks like,” said Lebby. “He’s bought in to being a great quarterback and understands what that means. That’s what you gotta have here. Obviously in playing in this league, you’ve gotta have a guy that knows how to run the show.”

The Mississippi State head coach is trying to give fans something to be excited about during his 1st offseason with the program.
