Mississippi State DL Jeffery Simmons was projected to be a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but on Tuesday, it was announced that he had torn his ACL.

The injury occurred while he was preparing for the draft, but now that it has happened, his draft stock will surely take a hit.

On Tuesday afternoon, Simmons tweeted a statement about his injury, saying he’ll have surgery to repair his knee early next week:

There’s still a chance Simmons could be a first round pick, but NFL teams may be scared away due to his injury and the fact that he won’t be able to participate in the NFL Combine at the end of the month.

Still, he recorded seven sacks and 33 tackles for a loss during his Mississippi State career, so his talent is undeniable, injury or not.
