Louisville surprises with huge salary for former Mississippi State DC Peter Sirmon

Peter Sirmon has one season of being a defensive coordinator on his resume: 2016 at Mississippi State. It didn’t go particularly well, as the Bulldogs finished 110th in total defense, 93rd in scoring defense, 70th in rushing defense and 120th in passing defense.
Sirmon is now with Louisville after the Cardinals and Bulldogs swapped coaches (former Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is now at MSU). Bobby Petrino and the Cardinals clearlt see something in Sirmon – or he has a really talented agent. Louisville will pay Sirmon an annual salary of $950,000.
In 2016 numbers, that would put Sirmon as the 14th highest-paid assistant coach in the country. Those numbers aren’t fully up-to-date, however, as some assistants have received raises. Sirmon previously checked in at No. 43, making $635,000 at Mississippi State.
I have some matches. It would be a far more efficient way of burning $1 million. https://t.co/S3ebyF3iWY

Sirmon basically received a 50% raise for that dumpster fire of a defense we fielded in 2016. pic.twitter.com/Lv4KiKYARc

From Louisville’s perspective, the Cardinals are saving money. Grantham made $1.3 million last season.
