Mike Leach discusses his relationship with Lane Kiffin as they enter first year as rivals
The state of Mississippi became a lot more interesting in terms of college football this offseason, as Ole Miss hired Lane Kiffin and Mississippi State brought in Mike Leach.
Both new coaches are some of the most interesting guys in the entire sport, so the rivalry between the Rebels and Bulldogs should go to another level this year.
On Sunday, CBS Sports writer Dennis Dodd published a story on Mike Leach, and in it, he describes his relationship with Kiffin:
“Lane’s a good guy,” Leach said. “We text back and forth. What’s fun about Lane is, everything they say about him is true, but he’s still a pretty good entertaining guy.
“Lane’s very hilarious to listen to. His view on nearly every subject is different than mine. That’s OK. It’s fun to goof on Lane. He’s a fun guy to goof on because he’s a reactor.
“When he was at SC, he always had the upper hand. … He’s kind of a broader net [in recruiting]. It seemed to me he was into more of the national thing. In our case, we stayed closer to home.”
How will these 2 big personalities recruit against one another this year and beyond? It should be fun to see them go head-to-head for years to come.
