Mike Leach loves to deploy the Air Raid in its purest form throwing the ball, but if a defense will give him lanes to run the ball, he’ll take it.

That’s exactly what happened against Kentucky last week when Mississippi State ran the ball 35 times for 94 yards.

“We ran it more, but part of that is that’s what the defense was giving us. Our running backs are continuing to improve,” Leach said.

State was led by Jo’Quavious Marks, who had 20 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, the Bulldogs continue to improve, but are far from a finished product, he said.

“I think we’re doing some good things. We’re kind of like the offense, I think we’re a work in progress,” Leach said. “… We’re really an eager and excited group as far as practice, that sort of thing.”
