Mississippi State holds the No. 5 recruiting class in the SEC — No. 13 in America — according to 247Sports, but that group of prospects now includes a pro-style quarterback.

Braedyn Locke of Rockwall, Texas, a 3-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, announced his commitment to Mike Leach and Mississippi State. Locke is rated the No. 24 pro-style QB of this class, and the No. 76 player in the state of Texas.

Locke is listed at 6 feet and 180 pounds, and has a reported 12 offers.

Locke reportedly made recent unofficial visits to the spring games at Mississippi State and North Carolina.

In two years as a high school starter, Locke has thrown for 7,582 yards, 92 touchdowns and completed 492 of 786 passing attempts. He has the skill set that Leach is looking for and the football I.Q. to make the Bulldog offense work, Gene’s Page reported.

This is a noteworthy commitment given the state of the Bulldogs’ depth chart, specifically with Will Rogers having conceivably four years of eligibility remaining.

With incumbent starter retaining four years of eligibility, quarterback recruiting has been a bit of a chore for the Bulldogs. The pass happy Air-Raid offense is a signal caller’s dream, but the Bulldog depth chart is not exactly inviting for a 2022 quarterback, Steve Robertson noted.
