Mike Leach memories: Fans, coaches and media remember beloved coach on anniversary of his death
Mike Leach passed away because of a heart condition last December as Tuesday marked the 1-year anniversary of his death.
Fans, coaches, media, and former players like Will Rogers all made posts on social media to commemorate the impact that “The Pirate” had on their lives.
Leach coached at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State during his career on the sidelines. Leach had success no matter where he went and left his mark on each and every program.
There are countless videos and examples of Leach simply being himself during his time as a head coach. From Leach’s thoughts on the ultimate Thanksgiving meal to questioning the College Football Playoff format, he wasn’t afraid to weigh in.
The college football world lost a living legend 1 year ago. Here are some of the reactions to the anniversary of Leach’s passing:
A year ago we lost too soon a college football icon, a coaching legend, and an even better person.

Can’t even wrap my head around the fact that it has been a year. It still doesn’t even feel real.

Rest in peace to Mike Leach.
I met him only once in my life. Introduced myself, and then he introduced himself to me. Next thing, he tells me to pull out my phone and take down Matt Dudeck’s number so I can keep him updated on who’s out there.
I can tell he was greatly loved…
