Mississippi State had to endure a lengthy weather delay during its game with Memphis on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs didn’t let it bother them, however, cruising to a 49-23 victory in Starkville.

Junior quarterback Will Rogers led the way for Mississippi State, passing for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns in the victory.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a road game at Arizona on Saturday night.

On Monday, MSU coach Mike Leach met with the media ahead of the matchup with the Wildcats and was asked about what he’d like to see his team improve upon in Week 2.

“I think we have to block better at receiver,” Leach said. “I think the offensive line (blocked) better at the second level, although I thought we were pretty good at the point of attack. I thought the receivers have to be faster and more precise with their routes, although I saw improvement and occasionally guys did what I thought they would do.”

Leach also believes that his team will continue to improve based on competition in practice each day.

“I think it’s important that all those positions remain competitive, so that each of those guys have the pressure of playing time riding on how they practice,” he said. “I think the secondary needs to continue to improve, particularly our safeties. I think our linebackers, while good at times, need to have good eye discipline.

“We can’t feel that we ever have the game in hand. Defensive line, we have depth there, which is good. If we play with lower pads and more violent hands, we’ll get to the quarterback.”

The game between the Bulldogs and Wildcats will kick off at 11 p.m. (ET) on Saturday night and be televised by FS1.
