Mike Leach will soon have a new opening to fill in Starkville.

That’s due to Mississippi State Director of Football Recruiting Mike Villagrana leaving the program to join Charles Huff’s Marshall program.

Villagrana and Huff were both recruited to Starkville by former Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead. News of Villagrana’s departure from Starkville was first reported by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

Huff, a former Alabama, Mississippi State and Penn State running backs coach, was named Marshall’s head coach this offseason.

When Leach arrived in Starkville, he kept Villagrana on staff to help the Bulldogs’ recruiting efforts.

Villagrana’s duties in Starkville included managing Mississippi State’s recruiting board and helping prepare for prospects’ visits to campus.
