Mississippi State sat seven players due to suspensions in the team’s season-opening 38-28 win over Louisiana last weekend and this week there are a handful of players that will miss the Southern Miss game, the team announced on Saturday.

Junior linebacker Willie Gay, sophomore receiver Devonta Jackson, freshman offensive lineman Kwatrivous Johnson, and sophomore defensive back Marcus Murphy are out due to violations of team rules.

The team also announced junior offensive lineman Dareuan Parker will miss the Southern Miss game due to injury.

Mississippi State’s home opener kicks off from Starkville at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The Bulldogs are favored by 17.5-points heading into the game.
