Just over a week after getting a Mississippi State scholarship offer, an in-state defensive back is now pledged to the Bulldogs. Oak Grove standout Jaylen Aborom announced his pledge to MSU on Saturday.

Aborom, from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, shared the news on his Twitter account.

Aborom is a wide receiver and defensive back for Oak Grove. He was recruited by nickelbacks coach Tony Hughes. As a prospect, 247Sports rates Aborom 3-stars, the No. 22 Mississippi product and No. 115 cornerback in the class of 2023.

Aborom told Paul Jones of 247Sports that he’ll be in the secondary:

“The Mississippi State coaches like me as a safety and that is where I want to play in college. When I was in the 9th grade and they moved me up to the varsity team, Coach Mitchell told me to try out at defensive back. At first, I told him I couldn’t do it because I had always been on offense. But I took his advice and it led me to being a ball-hawking safety.”

With Aborom on board, Mississippi State has 7 players committed for 2023. Three of those commitments have come this week. Mike Leach’s program secured verbal pledges from in-state prospects on Monday and Wednesday.

Aborom currently has 12 scholarship offers, including Southern Miss, Memphis and Indiana. His 2021 highlights can be viewed below, via Hudl:
