Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has landed a big prospect from the 2017 class. And when we say “big,” we mean that quite literally.

James Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 345-pound athlete from Pascagoula, Miss., announced his decision to commit to the Bulldogs on Wednesday morning after receiving an offer during an unofficial visit to Starkville this weekend.

“He has God-gifted ability,” said Jackson’s high school coach, Lewis Sims, per The Clarion-Ledger. “He can squat more than 600 pounds and competes as a power-lifter. He has brute force and will only get better.”

Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, Jackson is a two-way player at both offensive and defensive line, reportedly exceeding more than 200 snaps in a single game as a junior in 2015. That’s a lot of time on the field for someone of his size and stature; he’s expected to line up on the d-line for the Bulldogs.

“James has a great personality, has been one of our leaders on both sides of the ball and academically he is above a 3.0,” Sims said. “He is such a pleasant kid to be around and we are real proud that he is joining Bulldogs Nation.”

Jackson becomes the seventh member of Mississippi State’s class of ’17.
