Mississippi State and Mike Leach lost a commitment Thursday evening in 3-star defensive lineman Jacarius Clayton (Tupelo, Mississippi).

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound defender had been committed to the Bulldogs since June 1, 2019, but things have changed. He shared the following message on social media regarding his decommitment.

“First off, I’d like to thank the coaches and staff at Mississippi State for recruiting me and giving me an opportunity to play for their program,” Clayton wrote on Twitter. “After talking with my family and coaches, I think that it’s best if I de-commit from Mississippi State University and open my recruitment back up 100 percent. I would like to explore all options and reconsider what’s best for me as a student-athlete.”

Clayton’s decommitment comes on the heels of an official visit to Arizona State University last weekend. He’s currently ranked as the nation’s No. 484 national player.

The Bulldogs now have 13 commitments for the class of 2022.
