Mississippi State men’s basketball will face Akron in an early season tournament hosted by Barstool Sports, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported.
The game will be Nov. 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. It’s the first tournament of its kind hosted by Barstool. Toledo and UAB are the other teams playing in the event. Coach Chris Jans and his Bulldogs in the non-conference portion of their schedule will take on Marquette in the Fort Myers Tip-Off on Nov. 21. Jans’ team will play either Utah or Georgia Tech 2 days later.
The rest of the schedule for MSU features a SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup with TCU, a consensus top 25 preseason pick, on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs also have a return trip slated at Minnesota in December.
Jans’ team also knows that its 2022-23 SEC opponents will be 2022 NCAA postseason participants Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M in addition to Missouri, Ole Miss and South Carolina to Humphrey Coliseum.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting season in Starkville.
