Mississippi State is a popular choice for a sneaky good SEC football program in 2022. Sure, Georgia and Alabama are going to get theirs, but don’t count the Bulldogs.

At least, that’s what ESPN College Football’s Greg McElroy said on Monday’s iteration of Always College Football.

“Think about the positives. Here’s Mike Leach in Year 3. Usually in Year 3 that’s when the group as a whole takes a significant step forward offensively,” McElroy said. “They have a quarterback in Will Rogers now starting in year number 3 and he was great last year when you look at what he did at times. When he had help and when he had protection, he was very, very good. Not your average run-of-the-mill air raid guy who is just going to dink and dunk it.”

McElroy went on to mention the running duo of Jo’quavious Marks and Dillon Johnson, who have combined for 2,800 yards in the past 2 seasons for the Bulldogs. The running back tandem combined for just under 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

The Bulldogs will need to work on consistency if they are to make any noise in the SEC West this season.
