Mississippi State unveiled a tremendous Pirate-themed uniform combination ahead of the ReliaQuest Bowl against Illinois on Monday.
Featuring a player on the pirate ship at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, the Bulldogs showed in a reveal video that they will have a pirate logo on their helmets, along with a helmet sticker, with interlocking swords and “ML” to honor their late coach, Mike Leach.
Leach loved all things pirate, and even had one in his office, and had a motto to live by, “Swing your sword,” that he was remembered by in the days since his death on Dec. 12.
The Bulldogs did not hesitate to play in the game as it was confirmed not long after Leach passed, and will take on Illinois team at noon ET on Monday on ESPN2.

There are at least 2 other tributes at the stadium for Leach. “MIKE” is painted on the field, with a cowbell in place of the “i,” and a picture of Leach with flowers on the pirate ship.
