On Thursday, Mississippi State K Westin Graves revealed that he recently had surgery for a herniated disc at the completion of the 2016 season. To avoid risk of further injury, Graves has retired from football.
Upon learning of Graves’ injury, Bulldogs fan Heath Sellers sent Graves a note of apology via Twitter:
Graves appreciated the gesture and accepted Sellers’ apology.
Thank you, apology accepted.
A lesson to us all: at the end of the day it's just a game and there is a person under every uniform. https://t.co/7QCE2SfYTB

Should have made that point as well. Just because he was injured isn't why I apologized. Healthy or injured, it was wrong on my behalf!!! https://t.co/DH4v4fUj0N

One can hope that Sellers and Graves’ interaction will make an impression on other fans who may go over the line in criticizing student athletes on social media.
