Nick Fitzgerald may have had his ups and downs as a passer, particularly during his senior season in Joe Moorhead’s offense, but the SEC’s all-time leading rusher from the QB position hasn’t given up on his dreams of playing quarterback at the game’s highest level.

Despite his desire to play under center in the NFL, credit Fitzgerald for doing everything asked of him during Mississippi State’s recent Pro Day event. Sometimes, NFL teams just want to see how competitive a player is and what he’s willing to do to make a roster at the next level. If Fitzgerald can make a team and serve as an emergency/backup player at several positions, that makes his value to the team that much higher.

During the event, Fitzgerald was asked to not only throw the ball but he was asked to catch and block as well. Fitzgerald was happy to do it but continues to stress his desire to play quarterback at the next level.

“From what I know, people are showing a lot of interest as a quarterback,” Fitzgerald said at MSU’s Pro Day. “It is great I can come out here and show that I can do a lot of other things. I am completely fine and willing to go out and play in any position and do what I need to do to make the team, but first and foremost, quarterback.”

Here is Fitz showing some of his blocking skills:

He also caught passes for those in attendance:

Fitzgerald stated during his media availability at the Pro Day that NFL teams consider him a quarterback prospect, which was something backed up by NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo following the event:

“Asked around re: Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald. Despite running a few routes after his workout, he’s considered a legit QB prospect in next month’s NFL Draft. He’ll surely be drafted as such,” Garafolo tweeted out following the event.

Do you think Fitzgerald can cut it as a quarterback in the NFL? Remember, it wasn’t that long ago most were doubting Dak Prescott before he went on to star for the Cowboys.
