Mississippi State senior defensive lineman Nick James will not be prosecuted following  a recent arrest for public intoxication, according to a report.

Joel Coleman of The Starkville Daily News is reporting that a municipal judge has signed off on an order of nolle prosequi, which means the city will not proceed with charges against James. The city prosecutor and police chief also signed the order. The reason behind the order is not known.

The James’ story began with conflicting reports Sunday regarding his arrest. The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office originally told Coleman that James had been arrested for public intoxication, but later had no record of the arrest.

James’ status for MSU’s opener Saturday against South Alabama is unknown. The Bulldogs released a statement Sunday afternoon indicating that they were aware of the incident. At his Monday press conference, Mullen declined to answer whether James would be suspended.

The senior defensive lineman has played in 34 games for Mississippi State.
