Mississippi State’s losing streak to John Calipari and Kentucky is finally over.

The first Thursday game of the 2021 SEC Tournament was a great one as Mississippi State and Kentucky went down to the wire. The Bulldogs dominated the first half, the Wildcats dominated the second half, but in the end, it was the Bulldogs that came out on top, 74-73.

The win marks the first win for Mississippi State over a John Calipari-coached Kentucky team.

At halftime, Mississippi State led 44-30 by dominating the boards and scoring and converting those rebounds into points in the paint but Kentucky got hot in the second half to make this a competitive game.

Thanks in large part to turnovers, Mississippi State had 13 while Kentucky had just four, the Wildcats stormed back and actually took the lead late in the second half but the Bulldogs took the lead thanks to two late free throws that gave the Bulldogs a one-point lead in the game.

Mississippi State now advances to face Alabama on Friday.

Mississippi State improves its record to 15-13 on the season while Kentucky drops to 9-16.
