Sophomore DB Mark McLaurin has emerged as playmaker for Mississippi State defense
Some guys just have an innate ability to know where a football is going to be thrown.
Mississippi State sophomore DB Mark McLaurin is one of those guys. Since taking over as a starter for the Bulldogs against BYU, McLaurin has snagged two interceptions and returned a fumble for a touchdown.
McLaurin told The Clarion-Ledger that he just has a sense of what opposing quarterbacks and receivers are going to do:
“To be honest, it’s really just God-gifted talented,” McLaurin said. “I’ve been doing it since I’ve been young. Everybody knows that’s just the type of player I am. I always happen to be around the ball.”
The sophomore standout certainly isn’t lacking in confidence. He said he trusts his ability to go make plays for his team:
“When it’s thrown and I just have to break and go get it,” McLaurin said. “You’re going to see No. 41 go where the ball is.”
McLaurin will need to force a couple more turnovers this weekend if the Bulldogs are going to pull off another massive upset like they did last weekend against Texas A&M.
Mississippi State will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. The game kicks off at 11 a.m. Central time and can be seen on ESPN.
