Tolu Smith is back for another season in Starkville, Bulldogs fans!

Smith released a video on Twitter making his highly-anticipated announcement, finishing with “See y’all at The Hump next November, Hail State.”

This is one of the more significant SEC basketball announcement of the offseason. Smith is a first-team All-SEC center for the Bulldogs and provides a major boon Chris Jans’ squad in 2023-24.

Below is Smith’s announcement video:

The former Western Kentucky transfer had his best year in college basketball last season, averaging 15.7 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game, which was 2nd in the SEC only to Oscar Tshiebwe. Smith totaled 12 double-doubles on the year, the 2nd most in the SEC.

Smith has started 84 of his 85 outings at Mississippi State and guided the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Bulldogs are now 1 scholarship over the 13-man limit. Smith’s return comes in wake of transfer additions of former WVU forward Jimmy Bell and former All-Sun Belt guard Andrew Taylor out of Marshall.
