Mississippi State made a very interesting addition to its coaching staff recently — as it tabbed Todd Grantham as its new defensive coordinator.

Grantham left Louisville in favor of returning to the SEC. The 50-year-old native of Virginia coached extensively at Virginia Tech — before bouncing around multiple stops within the NFL. He when embarked on a four-year career at Georgia. Most recently, he spent the last few years on Bobby Petrino’s staff.

Grantham is known as a very good recruiter. He also employs an aggressive style — with plenty of blitzing and the utilization of exotic looks.

In the three years at Louisville, Grantham’s defenses were all ranked within the top 20 nationally.

Grantham enjoyed a raucous welcome from the faithful in Starkville during Saturday’s basketball game. Head coach Dan Mullen did an excellent job of securing an experienced, veteran coach to lead what will likely be a young defense in 2017.
