WATCH: Mississippi State player suffers scary freak injury after refs don’t stop play
When seasons are on the line, bodies are flying everywhere and sometimes, scary injuries happen.
Unfortunately, that was the case on Friday night at the SEC Tournament quarterfinal game in St. Louis. Many would argue that the circumstances could’ve been prevented had the officials stopped play when they should have.
After Mississippi State guard Nick Weatherspoon went down after landing awkwardly on his hip, officials didn’t stop play. On the ensuing position a Tennessee player and Weatherspoon’s brother, Quinndary, got tangled up and collided with the injured Weatherspoon, who got a kick to the face while laying under the basket.
What happened next was a scary sight:

After several minutes, they brought out a stretcher for Weatherspoon and they carted him off the court:

SEC Network reported that Weatherspoon was taken to a local hospital for x-rays after suffering a neck injury.
Here’s hoping the best for the talented freshman guard after the bizarre injury.
